Brixton has been in the news recently, and it’s not for the reasons it would have been in the past. Time Out, The Evening Standard and even Facebook have all been touting the transformation of Granville Arcade to Brixton Village. Lovely cafes have been popping up in brixton for a while now, from Rosie’s Deli to the lure of Franco Manca pizza there has been a reason to stop by if you in the neighbourhood, but you might not go out of your way to head to brixton. Until now…So we did just that. In the past few weeks I’ve been down there a couple of times from a Thursday evening of casual drinks and dinner with the ladies, to a Saturday quick-lunch and for an ambling Sunday afternoon coffee. Each time there has been a different vibe and a different collection of people around, but it never changed that it’s a fabulously eccentric collection of cafes, restaurants, bakeshops, ice cream parlors and the old Brixton standby’s of cheap plastic homewares and random fruit and veg.

I have to say, it’s pretty awesome. It’s something London really needed, somewhere not over run with tourists (like Borough Market) or too samey like Brick Lane. The range includes Indian (Elephant), Japanese (Okan), Burgers (Honest Burgers), Cakes (Ms Cupcake), Thai (Kaosarn), Coffee (Federation Coffee), Local food (Brixton Cornercopia) and many more.

Verdict – make the effort head down to Brixton and check it out… before all the hipsters do.
